I've been designing and making dulcimers for the past thirty some years. I have arrived at a few excellent designs, but I'm always working on new ideas.
My basic design is a medium trapezoid. The bottom side is 41 inches long. This makes for a compact instrument that is easy to lug around and easy to stash away.
These dulcimers have a 1/4-inch thick solid wood floating soundboard. The soundboard is held in contact with the body through the pressure of the strings. Spacing between courses is a standard 1" center to center. You may request wider (1 1/8"), or narrower (7/8") spacing, at slightly higher cost.
As I make each instrument separately to order, I can accept any wood choices. For exotic woods, there may be a small increase in price to cover the extra cost.
And since it's sound, not words, that actually prove the value of an instrument, please listen to MP3 recordings of these dulcimers or click here for more of my tunes.
